Consumer Information Website
CCSPA has developed a bilingual consumer information website at www.healthycleaning101.org with the help of our Stakeholder Outreach and Communications Working Group. The site provides Canadians with a one-stop source for information about the consumer products produced by CCSPA member companies, including Soaps and Detergents, Disinfectants and Sanitizers, Pest Control Products, Household Cleaning Products and Air Care Products. The Questions and Answers page includes Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about each group of products as well as specific issues of current interest, like bacterial resistance and so-called "natural" cleaning products. Our Media Room contains CCSPA News Releases on current issues of interest. Consumer Ingredient Communication Initiative On April 2, 2008, CCSPA announced the launch of a consumer ingredient communication initiative. By January 1, 2010, members will provide ingredient information to consumers on labels and/or members' websites. CCSPA was recognized as an industry leader by Prime Minister Harper, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Lung Association of Canada and the Institute of Child Health. Sustainability 101 Check out our great website on CCSPA and member company activities on such initiatives as Concentrate on the Future. Single Jurisdiction for Disinfectants and Sanitizers Disinfectants used to be regulated under two different Acts, the Food & Drugs Act (F&DA) and the Pest Control Products Act (PCPA). Products that were registered under both Acts had to comply with two separate sets of regulations, and our members were forced to pay two sets of maintenance fees for the same product. CCSPA and our members have been working with Health Canada to reduce duplication of regulation and user fees and increase performance standards for disinfectants - and we did. Now we have one Act, one set of regulations and one user fee for disinfectants! On December 15, 2004, our long-awaited exemption from Division 1A & 2 of the Food & Drug Regulations for disinfectants was published in Canada Gazette, Part II. This publication represented the end of a 10-year effort to streamline regulation and a major success for CCSPA! Products will be regulated according to risk and will not be subject to costly Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) designed for pharmaceuticals. CCSPA was pleased to see the long-awaited amendments to the Food & Drugs Act announced by Prime Minister Harper and Ministers Clement and Ritz at the 2008 Annual CCSPA/Federal Government Interface.
Review of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act The Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) includes a provision for mandated review every 5 years. In 2004, the government began its review of CEPA 1999. CCSPA participated on the Advisory Committee for CEPA Review (ACCR), and we commented on all five versions of the Scoping Paper that the ACCR developed for public use. CCSPA has been working with our parliamentarians in 2007 as the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development reviewed this important piece of legislation. CCSPA made 5 submissions and appeared 7 times at Committee and our key recommendations were adopted. We are the industry spokesperson for our sector!
